How to Apply for a Title Loan in San Diego

You can get a free quote by turning in an application with us. The application is quick to complete, only requiring you to fill out information about the car you own. The mileage, year, style, model, and make are the only requirements for this loan quote. In addition, you may have to provide us with contact information to guide you further into this process. Our loan agents will tell you about legal documents you may need to bring to the title loan lender they have paired you with. This may include:

  • Photo ID
  • Proof of insurance (Only applicable to loan amounts greater than $2,500)
  • Proof of income
  • Vehicle title

You are also required to bring the car under the title to the lending site. The title loan lender must document the condition of your car, and adjust the title loan estimate you were given online based on that. You are not required to bring in a set of spare keys, and will not be asked to leave your vehicle at the site. A benefit of a title loan in California is still being able to use the vehicle during the entire borrowing period.

The title loan lender must tell you about interest rates, payment plans, payment amounts, and due dates before you are needed to sign the contract.

How to Transfer your Car Title

You may acquire a vehicle by purchasing it from a dealer or private seller, or by inheriting it. Regardless, there are several steps to transferring a title to your name. If you have completed all payments necessary to a vehicle you purchased, with a car dealership they take care of all the paperwork necessary for you to get your title. On the other hand, a private seller must require you to:

  • Verify that the title has no liens
  • Verify the mileage, and fill out an odometer disclosure statement if necessary
  • Finish a smog check
  • Verify that the seller has the title application completed
  • Pay a fee of $15 along with any additional taxes to the California Department of Motor Vehicles. You have 30 days to do this, and you will be penalized if you do not do it in that time frame
  • You are also obligated to tell the California DMV of your purchase

To get the vehicle title transferred to your name if it is gifted, donated or inherited, you must have the original owner:

  • Provide the original title signed to the DMV (you may apply for a duplicate if you do not have this paperwork)
  • Take off any liens on the title if there is one
  • Complete an odometer disclosure statement if the car is 10 years old or less
  • Submit the Vehicle Transfer application (REG 262), which can be acquired at an office, or by phone at (800) 777-0133 and they will mail it to you
  • Complete the Notice of Transfer and Release Liability (REG 138) and submit it within 5 days from the date you transferred the title
